As many are aware, Physical Disability Council of NSW is set to lose its government funding after June 2018. So, we have joined forces with a number of independent disability advocacy, information and peak representational groups across the state to form the NSW Disability Advocacy Alliance. #StandByMe to make sure we don’t lose this vital funding.
The other organisations involved include Family Advocacy, IDEAS Disability Information, People with Disability Australia Inc. (PWD), Council for Intellectual Disability, Intellectual Disability Rights Service, Disability Advocacy NSW, Citizen Advocacy Western Sydney Inc, Mdaa Nsw, Spinal Cord Injuries Australia, Ethnic Community Services Co-operative, Disability and Aged Information Service, Ability Advocacy, Regional Disability Advocacy Service, Action for People with Disability Inc, Stroke Recovery Association, Synapse – Reconnecting Lives and First Peoples Disability Network.
The state government is handing over responsibility for disability services to the Commonwealth, but the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will in no way fill the gaps that cutting advocacy leaves. We need to ensure that people with #disability have a voice, are included in the community and have larger bodies to advocate for their rights on an individual and systemic level.
So #StandByMe, and show the Gladys Berejiklian government that #AdvocacyMatters.
